How a Septic System Works

A typical system consists of a septic tank with a gravity drain field, or a newer system will have an attached pump chamber and a pressure dosed drain field.

The tank in this picture holds all the solids from the house, only allowing the liquid to exit the tank through a filter. It is then pumped to the drain field. All pressure systems have a filter, which should be cleaned at least once a year.
